Popcorn Hybrids

SH 4862
Late Early to Early Medium Maturity

1 to 1.5% higher harvest moisture than SH 3064 at 14%.

Yield is competitive with other production hybrids. SH 4862 is an orange-yellow kernel with kernel size of 60-63 kernels per 10g. Very uniform kernel size reduces clean out and is excellent for microwave popping. We believe that a majority of the
SH 4862 produced is used in microwave packages.

A production (combine harvest) expansion of 41-43 MWVT is typical for this hybrid.

SH 4862 has excellent stalk strength and unparalleled root strength. We have never noted root lodging in a production setting and stalk lodging only after a severe storm, severe corn borer infestation, or long past ideal harvest time.

At maturity the husks open up, which helps with drydown as well as helps to prevent the development of Diplodia as well as other ear molds.

SH 4862 is quite resistant to corn belt leaf diseases, particularly Gray Leaf Spot and Anthracnose.

SH 3064
Early season hybrid

SH 3064 has exceptional stalk and root strength. This hybrid is a medium tall plant (84 inches) with an ear height of 48 inches. 1-2 ears per plant is normal at populations of 30,000 plants per acre on fertile soil.

SH 3064 has popular, medium kernel grain with an average kernel size of 63 to 66 kernels per 10g. In 2009, SH 3064 yielded extremely well in southern Indiana and northern Kentucky, with kernel size in the mid to upper 50's. The excellent combine harvested popping expansion of 45 to 49 MWVT is remarkable.

SH 3064 is equal to or exceeds all other available early season hybrids in all plant characteristics such as yield, lodging, maturity, grain, kernel size, color and expansion. SH 3064 is the early season hybrid choice for many popcorn growers.

As a result of its early vigor and ability to canopy the rows early in the season,
SH 3064 is very popular with organic producers.

SH 2865 *NEW*
Early Maturity

SH 2865 is our *NEW* early season hybrid with harvest moisture typically dryer than SH 3064.

SH 2865's superior stalk strength is evident well past normal harvest dates. This 2 ear hybrid out-yields all of the early hybrids on the market today with a very popular kernel size in the mid 60's and an excellent MWVT in the mid to upper 40's.

Supplies of SH 2865 are limited but we have enough inventory to give everyone an opportunity to take a look at it in 2010.

SH 4020
Late Early Maturity

SH 4020 is a late early maturity hybrid with top yields. SH 4020 received the highest possible stalk and root lodging scores at all test locations in 4 out of the last 5 years.

Kernel size in the upper 40's per 10g is typical for this hybrid. SH 4020 gives expansion on combine harvested samples of 39 to 42 MWVT. Produces mostly butterfly type kernels when oil popped but seems to have a tendency to mushroom when air popped.

SH 4020 exhibited excellent plant health even in areas where competing hybrids were severely impacted by Goss's Wilt and other leaf diseases. SH 4020 performs very well in southern growing areas as well as in northern areas which is unusual for an early maturity hybrid.

SH 612M
Mid Season Maturity

SH 612M is a mid season mushroom hybrid. SH 612M produces 90% or higher mushroom flakes (balls) with MWVTs of 35-36.

With excellent stalk and root lodging scores, SH 612M has demonstrated excellent yields in all growing areas from Nebraska to Ohio and as far south as northern Kentucky.

Test plot/test strip quantities of up to 25 lb. are available for planting in 2010. If you need mushroom popping corn, be sure to take a look at SH 612M.
